Answer:Financial counseling is the best way for one to resolve their credit problems.
Just make sure you use a reputable company and one that does not offer "instant credit repair" as this does not exist.
One can also do a lot on their own by simply checking out ways to improve your credit with free advice from the FTC and FICO. Here are some links (they are not to spam sites or bogus ones).

It is also a requirement when one files for bankruptcy and must be completed before any debts can be discharged.
